Matsumoto City

With the national treasure Matsumoto Castle at its center, and surrounded by the great nature of Kamikochi, Norikura Highlands, and Utsukushigahara Highlands, Matsumoto City is a castle town rich in history and culture. The abundant water, a blessing from the mountains, is used for urban development, and wells located throughout the town support people's daily lives.

Norikura Highlands

The Norikura Highlands are located in the Chubusangaku National Park on the west side of Matsumoto City. It is a mountainous area spreading out at the foot of Mt. Norikura, which rises 3,026 meters above sea level, yet is also a plateau rich in nature where people have lived since ancient times.　You can go trekking or biking in summer, enjoy the spectacular autumn foliage in fall, and soak in hot springs and view the snowy landscape in winter.
